Can You Play Snooker on a Pool Table

People often ask if you can play snooker on a pool table, and the answer is yes! In fact, it will be easier than trying to find someone who wants to play with you in your local pub or club.

All you need is a 9-foot by 5-foot table and some balls. The only downside of playing on the same surface as pool players is that there may be beer spills or cigarette burns that can affect your game.

What is snooker and how to play it?

The game of snooker, or billiards as it’s known in the States, has been around for centuries. The rules are similar to those of the more well-known game of pool, but instead of sinking balls into pockets, you’re aiming at individual red and yellow balls scattered across the table.

You can play with two people or more(as sides) at once – not bad considering that snooker tables are much smaller than full-size ones! There are also some variants on the basic rules which make things even more interesting.

How to Set up a Pool Table for Playing Snooker

Here are the instructions for setting up a pool table to play snooker:

– Measure your table. You will need to buy snooker balls for this game.

– Divide the table in half by drawing a line (either on paper or with chalk) down the center.

– Place one set of balls just past each end of the lines you’ve drawn on either side of the table.

– Put two red balls 18 inches from each other, and one yellow ball on either side of them, all at least 3 feet from the end cushion of the table.

– The other set of balls should be placed 25 inches from the side cushion and as close as possible to where you’ve already placed red and yellow balls.

– Put two more red balls 3 feet from the second set of colors, and one more yellow ball on either side of them, all at least 3 feet from the end cushion.

– Place one black ball 18 inches from the end cushion, and to its left put another red ball.

– Draw a line (whether it be on paper or with chalk) that is 2 feet long right about where the second set of colors are placed along each side of the table.

Snooker balls can be purchased online, or you can just go to your local pub and ask if anyone has any they are willing to spare.

The benefits of playing the game on a home pool table rather than in a pub or club

Many pub or clubs will already have tables set up for snooker, but if not, there are a couple of reasons you might prefer to play on a pool table.

Firstly, it’s much easier to find people who want to play with you when you’re just playing with one person.

Secondly, if the table is in better condition than in pubs or clubs, then that can provide you with an advantage over your opponents.

Thirdly, you can set up the table how you want it so that everyone is somewhat equal.

Fourthly, you have a smaller chance of being disturbed by other people since pool tables are usually located in separate rooms to where the bar is.

Finally, pool tables often don’t have cigarette burns or spillages from beer on them, which will give you a cleaner surface to play on.

If you’re looking to play pool but find it difficult to convince people at your local pub or club, playing at a smaller table may be the solution. You can set up the table how you want and have less of a chance of being disturbed by other patrons.

If all else fails, just buy balls online! Be sure that before buying a new pool table for snooker that you measure first so as not to purchase one too small. These are some benefits of playing this game in your own home rather than at a bar with others – what has been your experience?
